There are many ways to support the St. Joseph Island Museum and preserve our Island’s rich heritage for future generations. Whether through financial contributions, volunteering your time or becoming a Museum Member, your support plays an integral role in keeping history alive.

Museum Membership

One of the easiest and rewarding ways to support. Membership helps fund the preservation of our historic buildings, collections, educational programs and special events while providing you with a number of benefits. As a Museum Member, you will receive:

  • Unlimited admission to the Museum throughout the season
  • A copy of our annual Museum Newsletter, mailed each spring
  • A charitable tax receipt
  • Entry into our exclusive ‘Members’ Draw’ held each autumn
  • Satisfaction knowing that you are helping to preserve and share a part of history

Prize details for the Annual Members’ Draw vary each year and are announced on our social media platforms.
Memberships may be purchased by completing a membership form and mailing to the Museum or dropping it off in person.

Volunteering

Volunteers play a valuable role in helping us enhance our operations and visitor experience. They generously share their time, talents, skills and expertise in a variety of areas. We recognize that everyone has different schedules and availability. Whether you can contribute a few hours occasionally or volunteer in a regular basis, every contribution is appreciated. We offer flexible volunteer opportunities and do not require a minimum time commitment, allowing individuals to participate in a way that works best for them.

We strive to match volunteers with opportunities that suit their interests, skills and talents. Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Assisting with special events and children’s programs
  • Greeting and engaging visitors
  • Helping with collections and exhibits
  • Gardening and grounds maintenance
  • Building and site maintenance projects
  • Research and historical projects
  • Administrative and behind the scenes support

Donations

Donations are essential in helping the St. Joseph Island Museum preserve our heritage. In addition to purchasing a membership, individuals may choose to make a one-time donation, contribute in memory of a loved one, or support a specific Museum initiative. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps us continue to improve our site, programs, exhibits and visitor amenities. To support these ongoing efforts the Museum has created an Enrichment Fund. Each season, a project or area of need is identified, and donations to the fund are directed toward enhancing and improving the Museum visitor experience.

Past Enrichment projects have included:

  • The purchase of locally handcrafted benches for the Museum site
  • Museum and marketing promotional initiatives
  • Improvements to event and program infrastructure

As a registered charitable organization, the St. Joseph Island Museum is pleased to provide charitable tax receipts for all eligible donations.

Donation Form

Artifact Donation

The Museum is committed to preserving and protecting our community’s cultural heritage. To ensure that our collection remains relevant, meaningful and sustainable, all potential artifact donations are carefully reviewed in accordance with our collection mandate and available storage capacity. Due to limited space, every proposed donation is evaluated by the Curator and/or Museum Board before acceptance. When assessing potential donations, the following criteria are considered:

Relevance: Artifacts must align with the Museum’s collection mandate and interpretive goals.
Provenance: Donors must provide a clear and documented history of the artifact, including its origin and ownership.
Condition: Items should be complete, stable and in reasonable condition for long term preservation.
Unconditional Transfer: Donations must be made without conditions. Once accepted, ownership of the artifact is permanently transferred to the Museum.
